Should the police be trained on how to deal with individuals with Autism (ASD)?

Should the police be trained to deal with people on the autism spectrum?

Yes,

I do believe wholeheartedly that it should be mandatory for police officers to be trained as part of their normal training process.

And have to receive continuous ongoing continuing education follow-up classes in line with the Department of special education recommendations!

THIS SUBJECT BRINGS A LOT OF CONCERNS FOR PARENTS WITH AUTISTIC CHILDREN.
BECAUSE THE SPECTRUM COVERS SUCH A LARGE SECTOR OF #ASD AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS COMMUNITY.

It is essential that police be educated, trained and study the behavioral differences from all areas of the spectrum.

THERE CAN BE ALL KINDS OF SAFETY ISSUES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH ASD AND LAW ENFORCEMENT HAVE TO BE SYMPATHETIC AND well TRAINED/EDUCATED on how to handle a range of different behaviors . Many autistic individuals do not pick up on social cues as the general population of society would.

Many on the Spectrum have no filter (as far as representation of themselves),  law enforcement might have a difficult time and misinterpret their behaviour, reactions or non reactions.

Thus, safety issues could inherently arise.

In addition, fair and reasonable treatment could come into question if there is not some set standard, protocol implemented, followed and enforced.

I will continue thoughts on next post.

I will reveal first-hand experience on this subject. My son on the spectrum was harassed, victimized, violated and traumatized by two police officers… shaking my head just makes me sick just thinking back to that time.

My son, had nightmares for six months. This situation lead us to many court cases.

It was an extremely emotional very traumatic time for my son and I. Heads were rolling baby head where rolling mama don’t play!

Will explain on my next post which will be extremely detailed .

And I am very tired and I want to pay attention to detail so with my fibromyalgia and lupus and fibo fog creeping up on me… I will save this for part 2!
